Web and Database Integration Lead to Greater Staff Efficiency

Humanities Washington sparks conversation and creative thinking, and nurtures thoughtful and engaged communities across the state. Humanities Washington's Salesforce database was not integrated with their website, which required staff to make time-consuming manual updates to the database and online calendar whenever programs or events were scheduled. In addition, their website was out of date and in urgent need of an overhaul. Humanities Washington turned to NPower, which had exactly the right resources to help.

Founded in 1973, Humanities Washington sparks conversation and creative thinking, and nurtures thoughtful and engaged communities across the state. From their speakers bureau to traveling Smithsonian exhibits to family literacy instruction, Humanities Washington encourages individuals and families to get involved, ask questions, challenge assumptions, and work together toward a more prosperous future.

Humanities Washington staff use Salesforce, a popular constituent relationship management system to track relational activities ranging from fund development to program management. Salesforce was not integrated with their website, which required staff to make time-consuming manual updates to the database and online calendar whenever programs or events were scheduled. In addition to the lack of database integration, the website was out of date and in urgent need of an overhaul.

Humanities Washington turned to NPower, which had exactly the right resources to help.

“NPower’s expertise and support have made a huge difference for Humanities Washington. With our technical problems resolved, we can focus on bringing outstanding humanities programs to the people of Washington State.”

–Julie Ziegler, Executive Director, Humanities Washington

The Challenge

  • Humanities Washington’s technology systems did not communicate with each other and staff were required to enter the same data in multiple locations to ensure all systems were kept up-to-date.
  • The Humanities Washington website hadn’t been updated since 2000 and was lacking in functionality.

The Solution

  • Working with Humanities Washington’s graphic designer, NPower’s Web Consulting team was able to implement a re-branded website that would be easy for staff to update and maintain.
  • NPower’s Database Consulting and Web Consulting teams worked together to integrate Humanities Washington’s Salesforce system and website.
  • With the new system in place, speaking engagements are booked online and automatically pulled into the database. The website’s calendar is synced to pull information from the database, and automatically drop events from the calendar after the event has passed.
  • To ensure their systems continue running smoothly, NPower provides regular, ongoing IT support and maintenance.

The Impact

  • Now that Salesforce is integrated with the website, team members are three to five times more efficient, allowing them to focus on program work, not data entry.
  • Humanities Washington’s new site is visually appealing, information-rich, and functional. And since it’s built with a user-friendly content management system, it’s easy for staff to update as well.
  • Staff members have peace of mind knowing they can turn to NPower for technical support whenever they need help.
